Hope you had a great Christmas! Did you eat too much? I did.
And just as I breathed a sigh of relief, I remembered its New Year’s Eve in 2 days time! Ahhhhhh! More eating.
I’m not a connoisseur of what’s best to drink for NYE, but I do have a new favourite that I’d love to share. It’s a sparkling wine. I don’t usually drink sparkling wine (not a fan of the overly sweet or dry) and tend to prefer a glass of red with my meals. However I recently tried Prosecco and really enjoyed it. In particular, Dal Zotto, Pucino King Valley ($24).
It was a good balance between a sweet and dry sparkling wine, and not too fizzy (thus allowing room for more). Pale in colour with a rich fruity flavour, it was smooth to drink and complimented my meal – chicken roast – perfectly.
In my research of Prosecco and the wine makers Dal Zotto, I discovered that Pucino is the Ancient Roman name for Prosecco and it was made in the traditional charmat style. The Dal Zotto family moved from rural life in Italy to settling in the King Valley, Victoria where they pioneered Italian wine varieties. Enjoy as an aperitif or alongside your nibblies such as freshly shucked oysters or prawn skewers. Available from well stocked liquor stores such First Choice Liquor or Dan Murphy’s. Let me know if you find it at any other bottle shop. I would also love to hear about your favourite drink for NYE.
Happy New Year! I hope it’s a safe, healthy and happy one.
